Georgia Red Cross Society as a member of the ERNA and the Georgian Harm Reduction Network is organizing and actively participating in events dedicated to the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26 June every year. Since 1997, ERNA has provided regular information and technical support to European National Societies that consider these infectious diseases as a priority of their action in the field of public health and assistance to vulnerable groups such as migrants, sex workers, IDUs, prisoners, hard-to reach population.  

We would like to bring to your attention about the humanitarian initiative launched by the RCRC at the United Nations to respond to the increasing substance abuse problem worldwide: the Rome Consensus 2.0 – towards a humanitarian drug policy. Addressing substance abuse disorders with a humanitarian approach in this time of international crisis for the COVID-19 is vital for hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people’s lives.

World TB Day, falling on March 24th each year, is designed to build public awareness that tuberculosis today remains an epidemic in much of the world, causing the deaths of nearly one-and-a-half million people each year, mostly in developing countries.

Volunteer initiative has always been encouraged over the years in the implementation of diverse, interesting and useful initiatives for young people.

AIDS AND THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS “A core principle of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and of the AIDS response, is that no one should be left behind. The AIDS epidemic cannot be ended without the needs of people living with and affected by HIV, and the determinants of health and vulnerability, being addressed”.

TB research and development ⏺The SDG and End TB Strategy targets set for 2030 cannot be met without intensified research and development. Technological breakthroughs are needed by 2025, so that the annual decline in the global TB incidence rate can be accelerated to an average of 17% per year.

Every year the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society jointly with the Republican Center on prevention and fight AIDS under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and in close collaboration with other partners held various activities devoted to the 1 December, World AIDS Day.
