Prevention Trough dissemination and providing information on HIV and AIDS, modes of transmission, ways of prevention and means of prevention. Distribution of informative materials (booklets), condoms, organization of public events like Candlelighting Memorial Day(second weekend of May) and World AIDS Day on December the 1st. Through informative materials in the form of booklets, as well as condoms, syringes, alcoholic pads are distributed among IDUs. Through organization of education of the TB patients in policlinics and at home countrywide by 38 social workers. The social workers learn about TB patients’ living conditions, disseminate the patients and their family members on TB by informative materials. They also provide them psychological support.Through 40 seminars for regular-TB patients in TB cabinets, where the patients receive their treatment.Organization of 6 special 3-day seminars for the 35 social workers and the main staff to educate them on TB, DOT and psychological support.Implementation of 12 educational seminars for MDR-TB patients in TB cabinets by social workers.
Counselling There is a special equipped room in the ARCS Vanadzor branch office for counselling. The project psychologist is there to answer telephone calls and provide the needed information and counselling to visitors and those who call. VCT is organized as well as pre and post test counselling for IDUs in Vanadzor. For Regular and MDR TB patients 38 social workers and psychologist carry out the counselling during policlinic visits or home visits.
Care All TB patients are provided with social support in the form of food parcels and hygiene kits as well as receive either home based or clinic based care.MDR TB patients are provided with juice and yoghurt during drug intake, they also receive transport cost and 3-month winter heating fee.MDR TB   patients receive DOT during clinic based care or get home visits by nurses and 38social workers.
Advocacy Two campaigns- organized for Candlelighting Memorial Day (second weekend of May) and World AIDS Day on December the 1st. The World TB Day was marked by public awareness campaign on 24 March. The ARCS staff and volunteers distributed among general public information/education materials on TB and MDR TB.

Best practices Organization of sessions and trainings on HIV and AIDS among youth/students aged 15-23.Organization of public events, involvement of celebrities, interactive activities targeting youth (filmwatchings, open lessons), involvement of Mass Media means, wide use of internet (as dissemination means), social networks. The World TB Day was marked by public awareness campaign on 24 March. Support groups that are organized for TB patients, peer education, celebration of second birthday after MDR TB patients’ full treatment.

SMS helpline projectThe purpose of the SMS helpline project implemented by the Armenian Red Cross Society is to act as a communication resource aiming to increase awareness and provide informational support for the Armenian population in response to their questions and concerns about HIV/AIDS. The helpline provides an essential point of contact for those directly or indirectly affected by HIV/AIDS and related concerns. The program is implemented by youth volunteers. Fully trained volunteers respond to queries via SMS providing advice and support and where necessary signposting to specialist organizations and health care services. The service is implemented using a commercial short number and prospective service users send a SMS to this number at no cost to them and the message is  picked up on a computer in the Armenian Red Cross office where the volunteer responds.
